RIP, Cullum: There’s Only One Reason General Hospital’s Sidwell Escaped!

By the time Sidwell made his escape on General Hospital, we already knew it was coming. Sure, he’s backed into a corner with just about no way out — at least not without some kind of cooling off period offscreen — but there was no way a baddie like him was going out in prison. So it was absolutely no surprise to us that Dante had “Nathan” take him into custody — only for Sidwell to escape!

The villain made clear that he has contingencies and plans in place, and while he’s down, he’s certainly not out, but it’s equally clear that this storyline is racing towards its conclusion. Joss and Obrecht can’t stay disappeared forever, Carly and Val are about to make a move at Wyndemere, Cassius is growing a conscience and Sidwell is persona non grata in Port Charles.

But while Jenz has been allowed to grow and become more human, thanks to his interactions with the folks in town and his grief for Marco, Sidwell’s partner in crime hasn’t been so lucky. Cullum is just about evil personified. Jenz may make it out of this alive, giving him the chance to come back some day, but Cullum? He’s as good as dead.

And what could be more poetic or satisfying than having his partner turn on him to do the deed? We were a bit surprised that Lucas DIDN’T taunt Sidwell with the truth about Cullum and Marco, but there’s no way this is ending without Jenz finding out the truth. And when he does, the next three bullets he fires are going to be right into Cullum.

That couldn’t happen if Sidwell’s in custody. And while eventually, yes, he does deserve to be thrown into prison (or whatever hole the WSB threw Jason into), there’s still that one, final deed he has to do. And that’s to make Marco’s killer pay. With his life.

After that, and the realization that Sidwell’s actions really did lead to his son’s death, we have a feeling he may even go willingly with the authorities. A broken man who’s found that vengeance won’t fill the hole in his heart, or ease the guilt he’ll surely feel.

But hey, at least Cullum will be six feet under!
