Naomi Forgives Smitty While Keeping Secrets of Her Own — Plus, Garland Memorial Gets a New Chief of Staff!

Frustrated by all the action unfolding around the house, Smitty basically kicks everyone so he can work on his story. They scatter to various locales, leaving Smitty to himself… at least until Naomi comes by. He prepares to be put on blast, but she thanks him for having been there for not only Jacob but her, too. She didn’t love being kept in the dark by him, but she understands. “Sometimes, you have to keep secrets to protect ourselves and the ones we love most,” she sighs, clearly think about her own BRACA-gene secret. Later, she winds up skipping one of her doctor’s appointments in favor of a client meeting.
Jessica and Tyrell have another conversation about their future at different schools before making love, while Kat and Chelsea advise Samantha against crushing on Donnell in favor of dating someone her own age. The teen admits that Anastasia and her granddaughter got into her head, making her doubt whether she’s a true Dupree, but Chelsea and Kat push that nonsense out of her head before shocking her with an amazing gift: A newly-designed ChelseaKat bag that they want Samantha to name!
Eva’s Struggling
Eva’s burning the candle at both ends thanks to the clinic and working for her dad, and it’s showing as she “brings the chaos.” Cracking, she admits that she’s struggling more than expected with Derek’s death. Ted orders his daughter to focus on the clinic for a week while she deals with her grief. He talks about Bill having been there for him as he dealt with the death of his brother (aka Andre’s dad). Later, Eva winds up bonding with Shanice over Derek stories.
Is Nicole Really Over Ted?
Nicole tells Anita and Vernon that she’s kind of annoyed Ted tossed her name into the ring for Chief of Staff, saying it’s an indication he doesn’t know her at all. They agree Monica would be a great fit for the job, and Vernon goes to call her, leaving Anita to have “a Ted talk” with Nicole. As Nicole is opening up to Anita about her recent Ted-related fantasies, her ex is talking to Martin about how odd her behavior toward him has been of late. Martin convinces his dad that Nicole’s dance card is already pretty full. Ted asks Shanice to be his date to Martin’s big fundraiser — which will feature the big Young & Restless crossover next week — and Anita, although not entirely convinced her daughter doesn’t still have feelings for Ted, asks whether Kial or Carlton will wind up being Nicole’s date!
Although Monica isn’t sure taking the Chief of Staff position is what she wants to do, Shanice and Naomi support the idea. Vernon, too, swings by the hospital to urge Monica to accept the job. He’s flattering her up one side and down the other when Monica stops him, saying that Garland Memorial seems like it might be a good fit.
