Marlena’s reaction to coming home and seeing Brady bagging Tate’s toothbrush (What does it say about Tate’s dental hygiene if Brady knows he can swipe it without being noticed?) is perfect: “Do I want to ask about this?” But Brady just assures her he’s got it handled.
That dealt with, they talk about Rachel, with Marlena cautioning Brady to ease up on the punishment, or he could lose her. Kristen being gone for six years is almost literally a lifetime for a kid. She can help make sure Rachel and Kristen can see each other on a regular basis.
Kayla Will Not Help Steve
Steve drops in on Kayla in an exam room to ask for help with the DNA test. Kayla’s just the right amount of shocked for Salem, but not thrilled that everyone involved is in the dark. In fact, she refuses to run the test!
She’s got ethics. Mostly. And EJ’s looking for a reason to fire her. But doctors giving permission to run DNA tests is old-school anyway, so she gives Steve a link to order a test to do it himself. Welcome to the future!
They head out to the nurses’ station, where Brady joins them and they all act like they’re in the middle of a drug deal. He hands over the toothbrush and Kayla side-eyes them and says to drop it at the lab.
Chad Keeps Lying About Cat
Chad and Thomas catch up in the pub and the kid asks why grandma and grandpa are keeping an eye on Cat Greene. Chad just tells him that Cat made a mistake and grandma and grandpa aren’t very forgiving. Unlike him. But they’ll hopefully get there eventually.
Thomas asks his dad if he likes likes Cat, so for the hundredth time, Chad lies and says they’re just friends. Thomas tells his dad about Rachel, and Chad just encourages him to be a good cousin/friend and let him know if she does anything dangerous.
When Kayla and Steve show up, Steve takes Thomas off to the bar (Not to drink!) and Kayla asks Chad about EJ’s free clinic.
EJ Plays Cat and Mouse
EJ’s happy with Cat’s design taste in his office, which is clearly his way of softening her up to ask about the blueprints. Cat just laughs, says she knocked them over and wouldn’t have any idea of what they mean — but EJ’s made her curious. So he sells her the free clinic/boosting the family reputation scheme.
When Cat brings up how EJ knows about her and Chad, EJ promises he knows how to keep a secret (In fact, he’s keeping plenty right now!) then offers to take her out to dinner as thanks for her work.
Are Xander and Sarah Reuniting?
Xander drops in at the hospital and jumps straight into the DiMera/Titan drama with Sarah. She offers to do anything to help, then assures Xander he’s a good dad, no matter what. Plus, she apologizes for not believing him about beating Philip. “Is there any way that you could forgive me?” And Xander does! Probably out of guilt, since, you know, he did almost kill Philip.
She then asks if he’d forgive her for lying about the fraud, and Xander gets a bit emotional saying if he can forgive Philip, he can forgive her. (That’s not a yes, though…) Sarah says he needs to be able to trust her if they want to repair their marriage. Knowing he didn’t attack Philip changed everything for her — which makes Xander uncomfortable so he runs off to Marlena.
Sarah spots Cat and EJ at the bistro and thanks EJ for the Tom Horton Free Clinic. After she leaves, Cat asks EJ why he bid on her at the auction. Turns out, it was a tactic to make himself seem like a generous hospital supporter before he bought it.
Also, he wanted a date with her. There was something “different and familiar” and he wanted to know more. Plus, he was impressed by the Abigail con. In fact, that’s one of the reasons he hired Cat!
Sarah, meanwhile, meets with Brady at another table. He tells her about Rachel’s misadventures and she tells him about the Titan/DiMera drama. He wants to know if she knows what kind of fraud Tony’s talking about. “You should talk to Xander.”
In the Show’s Final Moments
Chad tells Kayla he believes his brother, but he’s fooled them all before. But he’ll work to help put guardrails in place. Chad heads out with Thomas, and Kayla just notes — after bringing up Cat — that his life’s about to get “very complicated.”
Brady tells Sarah that the company splitting could be catastrophic. Titan and Basic Black could go under. “I really hope that Xander and Philip didn’t do something to put it in jeopardy.”
Xander shows up at Marlena’s for a session and brings up Tony’s lawsuit, assuring the doc that he’s not taking his anger out on anyone. He and Philip will work it out together. Heck, he even saved Philip’s life! Or would have if Philip hadn’t been testing him by fake choking. Marlena tells Xander she’s proud of him, and he admits he’s proud about how he’s handling it. And Sarah! There might be hope for them for the first time in ages.
