The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Is Phyllis Headed for Heartbreak or Happily Ever After with Matt?

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) finally has someone in her life who appreciates her beauty, charm and that strange brain of hers.

Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) is just as quirky as Phyllis and has found a connection with her that can’t be denied.

Although Phyllis knocked Matt out and tied him up at one point, he doesn’t hold it against her and still believes she has a warm heart.

Matt is clearly smitten with Phyllis, so he’s hoping they have a romantic future based on his date request in the June 25 episode.

Matt even went as far as to call Phyllis dazzling, so she’s not used to getting so much complimentary attention.

Of course, Matt comes with some baggage due to his horrible past and all the awful things he’s done – particularly to Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case).

Phyllis is already a pariah who’s struggling to make amends with her children, so a romantic connection with Matt isn’t going to help her win Summer Newman (last played by Allison Lanier) and Daniel Romalotti Jr. (Michael Graziadei) over.

In fact, this news could make things much worse!

Nevertheless, Y&R Head Writer Josh Griffith confirmed that Matt and Phyllis are indeed a new pairing to root for based on his recent interview with SOD.

Griffith insisted “it just can’t get more delicious” than these two and explained why they can relate to each other.

Although Phyllis’ past transgressions aren’t at the same level as Matt’s, she can still understand what it’s like to be treated like an outsider and have to prove yourself.

As for Matt’s terrible history, it’s easier for Phyllis to embrace a clean slate since she wasn’t his victim like Sharon, Nick and so many others.

“Phyllis was never a victim of Matt’s horrors,” Griffith said.

“And in Matt, she’s seeing someone who wants to change, who wants to be redeemed and who wants forgiveness. And in an odd way, they’re kind of kindred spirits in that aspect.”

Griffith gushed over both the characters and the actors who play them as he defended the new pairing.

Michelle Stafford and Roger Howarth are both unpredictable performers, so Griffith suggested “it’s always riveting” to see where they’ll take a scene together.

It’s clear that Griffith is ready to go all in on Phyllis and Matt as a romantic duo, but what does their long-term future look like?

Is Phyllis headed for heartbreak or happily ever after – at least as long as those last on soaps?

That probably depends on how long Matt’s redemption sticks!

If there comes a day when Y&R decides to shift gears and have his worst impulses return, then Matt and Phyllis’ relationship could crumble.

For now, Matt might be just the guy to sweep Phyllis off her feet and give her the happiness she’s been craving for so long.
