At Crimson Lights, Sharon won’t let Phyllis leave and demands to know where she’s keeping Matt Clark. Refusing to listen to more lectures, Phyllis thinks everyone should see her as a hero for what she’s doing. When Sharon reminds her that Matt could kill Noah and that would be on her head, the redhead insists that everything will pan out as long as the Newmans follow her lead.

Christine Needs Proof

At the Athletic Club, Christine isn’t convinced by Nick’s offer to put Matt away in exchange for letting Phyllis off. She assumes Phyllis put him up to this and won’t talk a deal until he proves he can hold up his end. Nick agrees to this and exits.

Daniel joins Christine and asks if she’s heard from his dad. She reminds him that Danny flew out on tour this morning and is likely distracted. He asks about his mom’s case. Christine reminds him she can’t say anything. He gets that, but if he could convince his mom to hand Newman back, would that change things? Christine can’t see his mom compromising.

As Christine heads into the foyer, Phyllis appears. They leap into insulting one another until Daniel joins them and urges a compromise. His mom refuses, and declares that Cricket will lose. With that, she stomps up the stairs.

Phyllis Shocks Matt

When Phyllis gets to Matt’s suite, she’s disturbed to find him with Patty. The women launch into it. Patty makes it clear she’s told Clark that Phyllis is keeping things from him. Matt asks Phyllis why she’s kept her past with the Newmans hidden. Despite all that Patty has said, he still trusts her. Phyllis agrees to fill him in on his past as long as Patty gets out.

No sooner has Patty departed than Matt breaks out laughing at how intensely the women hate each other. Phyllis bluntly tells Matt that he’s tried to kill several of the Newmans, and has committed assault and rape. He reels as though he’s been struck. He’s appalled… but being such an awful person would explain why people want to walk up and punch him.

Unraveling, Matt questions why Phyllis is being friendly if he’s so horrible? Why isn’t she afraid of him?! Phyllis claims she doesn’t have time for this and heads for the door… but he begs her not to leave him.

Nick Flip Flops

Nick enters the Crimson Lights patio and pops a pill before joining Sharon and Noah inside. They discuss whether Phyllis really has Matt and where he could be. Nick tries to assure them all that this will be over soon. He’s given Phyllis an offer she can’t refuse. He admits he did this behind Victor’s back, and there may be hell to pay, but taking Matt down is his number one priority.

Sharon and Noah are happy that he has changed his tune about taking Matt out on his own and agreed to hand him over to the authorities. But this seems abrupt…

Devon Surprises Mariah

Mariah is startled when Devon arrives to visit her at the mental health clinic. He hands her a card from Dominic, wishing her to get better. Mariah thanks him for bringing this and apologizes once more for what she did to his family. Devon explains that everyone in his life has been pushing him to forgive her, but he can’t.

Mariah understands. If she were in Devon’s position, she would feel the same. That only makes him feel worse. He tells her that he hasn’t been able to shake how betrayed he feels. His son keeps asking to see her because he wasn’t hurt and cares. Mariah feels that’s a testament to him and Abby.

Devon explains that the hardest part of this is understanding why it happened. Mariah explains that she became disconnected from reality and fell into darkness. Dominic appeared like a beacon who could lead her back, but it was Ian who was leading her. She admits that part of her knew what she was doing the entire time and she knew she was wrong. Now, she’s trying to repair the parts of her that were broken when she was a child.

The Final Scenes

At Crimson Lights, Sharon and Noah both note that Nick’s flip on how to deal with Matt Clark seems dramatic. Nick promises them that he won’t take matters into his own hands. Sure, Jan.

In the Club suite, Matt tells Phyllis that the truth about his past is a lot to take in. He’s good with not getting his memories back and wants to leave town. She says she can’t let him do that. “Why is that?” he asks, “What is it you’re not telling me?”

At the clinic, Mariah tells Devon that she’s to blame, not him. He protests; he vowed to do all he could to protect Dom. As he hollers and beats himself up for not preventing his son’s kidnapping, Mariah pleads, “Don’t do that!” She reminds him that he brought his son home and her too.

Mariah didn’t think she deserved the plea deal either, but was convinced that getting treatment was the only way to help them all heal. She begs Devon not to let the anger suck him in or he’ll drown like she did. He needs to forgive himself.
