Nightmare Fuel! Young & Restless Just Teased a Horrific Twist…That’s Not as Far-Fetched As You May Think

It seems like almost everyone in Genoa City is going through it right now, but at least one person had a horrific experience in Thursday’s episode. Thankfully, it took place in a dream (or nightmare, we suppose). But everything happens for a reason on soaps… and Young & Restless fans may be surprised to hear that these scenes may have been more foreshadow-y than far-fetched.

While it’s debatable whether or not Diane should still be freezing Jack out considering what happened to him on the yacht, we couldn’t help but feel for her when she finally reached out to him asking to talk, only to drift off and suffer a horrifying nightmare about Jack and Patty getting back together.

As ludicrous as that sounds, considering Patty shot Jack at point blank range on two separate occasions, the dream only got worse from there. As Patty draped herself all over Jack, questioning why Diane was in “their home,” she then dropped another bomb: She didn’t miscarry all those years ago, and she and Jack had found their long-lost daughter.

Diane, of course, awoke screaming bloody murder, and who could blame her? Jack having a grown child with a psychopath definitely qualifies as his wife’s worst nightmare. Our initial thought was that she’d quickly shake it off, but then we remembered that she’s likely to venture out and find Jack cozied up to Patty at Society, where he’s trying to recruit her in a revenge plot against Victor. Urgh.

We also realized something more concerning… Diane’s nightmare may not have been as preposterous as we wrote it off to be. Things happen on soaps for a reason, and we suddenly had to ask ourselves if the horror that unfolded in the dream could actually have been foreshadowing.

We know, we know. When Patty walked in on Jack and Diane all those years ago, she tripped and fell, and later miscarried. There’s no way she could have secretly had his baby, right? Except, there’s an easy tweak to Patty Williams’ wild and crazy history just waiting to be rewritten.

After Patty miscarried, she and Jack stayed married and she pushed to make another baby right away. She then overheard him saying he’d only married her to secure Jabot, and, after threatening to kill herself, shot him three times. As the investigation played out, Patty left town for Washington, D.C., which means there is a window of opportunity there for the writers to decide that Patty had a child while she was away. One that could conceivably come back to town as Diane’ worst nightmare.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time this kind of thing happened in soaps. All My Children’s Erica Kane thought she’d had an abortion, only to later discover the embryo had been stolen and carried to term by another woman. Heck, it wouldn’t even be the first time Jack had a child he didn’t know about come out of the woodwork. Remember Keemo?!
