Jack arrives at home to find Diane rocking a romantic Italian evening. He beams that she always knows what he needs. They kiss.

Jack spouts some Italian sayings and they gab about Harrison coming home from Milan soon, remarking on the comparable peace and quiet now. Harrison, it seems, has taken up the accordion. They toast, slow dance, and imagine Venice. Diane’s pleased by Jack’s update that Kyle and Claire plan to move in together. She’s sure the blonde will want nothing more to do with her grandfather.

Who Irks Holden?

On his train, Cane gets an update from Holden on his real estate portfolio. Holden, at the bar in Society, disconnects as Daniel walks in and says he overheard him talking to Cane Ashby. He makes a crack about him not minding who he hurts on the way up. They spar verbally about Ashby, and Daniel reveal they share the same ex-wife, Lily, and admits they both hurt her. Holden explains he worked for Cane when he was Dumas, and was recently rehired. They exchange names and Holden learns Daniel’s concerned about his mother, who has aligned herself with his boss.

How Will Phyllis Overstep?

On his train, Cane struggles to compose a text to Mattie and Charlie asking for a chance to make things right. Phyllis appears with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the coronation of Genoa City’s new royalty (he’s the King, she’s the Queen). Cane tries to tell her it’s not a good time, but there’s no stopping the Phyllis Express. She pops and pours, and declares that she’s seen Nick: Cane has the Newmans running scared. Cane’s still not in the mood to celebrate.

Phyllis finds out Cane has shattered his children’s trust and assures him she’s an expert in the field. At least he faked being an alive person… she pretended to be dead! “Just do better,” she advises before toasting to kids and their resilience.

Cane and Phyllis both admit they’re not good with patience and like to make things happen. Just as they’re getting on an even keel, she confides that she saw Lily earlier. Cane demands details. Phyllis admits the encounter left her wanting to cheer him up. Ashby stiffly tries to thank her for her concern. “I think we are a lot alike,” he tells her, but then makes it clear they are not partners or equals; she is not the Queen to his King. Red seems to accept this, and they toast to their mutual admiration.
