What started as an emotional moment between a Bold & Beautiful mother and daughter quickly took a turn into the bizarre… and fans had a lot to say about it. But was the cringeworthy scene actually necessary to finally push a character into doing something long overdue?

The sequence in question came toward the end of the episode airing on Wednesday, May 20 (a recap of which you can read here). No sooner had Hope processed the news that mom Brooke had thrown her under the proverbial bus than the older woman shared intimate details of her passionate night with Ridge!

“Why, oh why, did Brooke feel it necessary to tell her daughter [that she and Ridge made love] after they talked?” asked Redditor u/kindalikewildflowers. “I’m sorry, but that is just gross! What grown woman shares that personal and private information with someone else?”

Others on the thread — amusingly headlined “Ick” — agreed. “Glad someone else thought this was distasteful and unnecessary,” wrote u/TropicalDragon78. “I turned the TV off.”

Over on the comment section beneath our daily recap, the vast majority of readers were upset less by Brooke’s, er, confession than Hope’s general attitude. They also found it ludicrous that Hope’s response was to run over to the Logan offices and share the info with hubby Liam.

“What daughter talks to her husband about her mother being intimate with her husband?” asked 49erFan4Life. “This show and its ick is cringeworthy!”

Commenter Lorna suggested that “Hope wants her mother to prostitute herself… only go to bed with Ridge if she gets something!” (Lorna also brought up a plot detail which should lead to all kinds of drama. “Wait til Hope finds out that Brooke sent Steffy a text saying what a great co-CEO she is!”)

Reader Michelle Woods, however, saw exactly what was going on. “I do understand why [the writers] had to make Hope blame Brooke,” she wrote. “How else does she justify leaving Forrester for Logan? She can blame it on her mommy for not stealing someone else’s job in order for her daughter to get what she wants. It will all be Brooke’s fault [Hope] defected to Logan!”
