Amy Choi Gets a Double Whammy of Bad News About Sophia — Plus, JJ Makes a Life-Changing Choice

At The Brady Pub, Amy thanks Roman for hosting the reception after Sophia’s prayer service. She refuses to call it a memorial and has been praying for a miracle. Roman hopes she gets that miracle.

Jada joins Amy later with an update. She’s sorry to say, the recovery operation for Sophia has been called off, and there is almost no chance of recovering her remains.

What News Shocks Amy?

Roman stops by when Amy goes off on Jada for giving up on Sophia. He learns about the called-off search, and Roman assures Amy that this doesn’t mean the investigation is off.

Jada has more news. When they dragged the river, they recovered the gun used to pistol-whip Johnny. Amy is stunned that she hasn’t heard of this until now, and where did her daughter get a gun? Jada says that’s a good question.

Jada explains the FBI found Sophia’s fingerprints on the gun along with Johnny’s blood. Unfortunately, the serial number was filed off, which prompts Roman to wonder where a teen would get a gun like that. Jada intends to find out.

Shawn and JJ Catch Up

Shawn and JJ have breakfast in Horton Square. Shawn is almost cleared to head back to work and has no idea who his new partner is. Shawn asks JJ what’s next for him? JJ has a plan, he’s just not ready to put it out there. Shawn lets him know they are good, they are family, and he only wants him to move forward.

JJ asks Shawn how things are going with him living with Jada. Shawn insists he’s only crashing at her place until he’s on his feet again, and they’re only friends. He says she’s been amazing.

What Brings Jack and Jen Home?

At the Hortons’, Jennifer and Jack look at cupcakes Thomas and Charlotte made, and Julie roped Jen into judging them. Jack just came from seeing Steve and Kayla, and admits he stopped to see Gwen. Jack explains he told Gwen that he wanted to try for a relationship, and she’s open to it. Jack asks how Jen feels.

Jen says she understands it and admits she’s envious as she misses Abigail.  She admits she still has so much anger that she has to find a way to let go. Jack points out that living in a constant state of pain and anger is not the way to remember their daughter. Jen knows she must move on and support his decision to be in Gwen’s life. He thanks her.

What Decision Has JJ Made?

JJ shows up later, as Jen tells Jack the kids’ cupcakes are a tie because they can’t pick a winner. They are thrilled to see JJ and hug. He assumes they are here to check on him, and assures them he’s doing better than he’s been in a long time.

JJ says he’s been thinking about his choices lately, and the fact that he wasn’t ready to go back to being a cop. He still wants to do good and serve the public, just not with a gun. He didn’t want to tell them until it was certain, but he’s been recertified as an EMT and will be working for the Salem Fire Department.

Jada and Shawn: More Than Friends?

Jada joins Shawn in Horton Square, and he asks how her meeting with Amy went. She just finished telling her and her husband that their daughter is certainly dead, and her body may never be found. Shawn takes her hands and comforts her.

Jada says none of this case, including an untraceable gun, makes sense. They are obviously missing something.

Gwen and Gabi Daydrink

Gwen finds Gabi already drinking at Small Bar and joins her. Gabi fills her in on betraying Philip, and that it’s over. Gabi then asks what’s new in Gwen’s world.

Gwen starts with the good news: her dad reached out to her to rebuild their relationship. She doesn’t get many second chances and won’t screw this up.

The bad news? She agreed to a sex-only relationship with Xander. The problem? She caught feelings for Xander again, but he only has eyes for Sarah. She admits that no matter how much she tries to tell herself, she needs someone in her life; she needs love.

Philip and Brady Talk

Philip, in his dress uniform, runs into Brady in the park. He just came from the memorial service at the cemetery for some of his fallen Marines. Brady sees Philip is troubled, and he fills him in on what happened with Gabi.

Brady asks if there is a chance he can forgive her, but Philip says no. He kicked her out and told her that he never wanted to see her again. Brady suggests his feelings might change in time, but Philip doesn’t see getting past this.

Amy Still Has Hope

Philip soon shows up at The Brady Pub and thanks Roman for decorating the place for the holiday and for feeding the vets free of charge. Philip then goes over to extend his condolences to Amy. He introduces himself as Tate’s uncle, and she knows his name and is so glad to run into him.

Amy asks him to sit because she has a personal question. She knows he fell into the Salem River and survived, as have others, so how did he stay alive? Philip is sorry, but he can’t tell her what she wants to hear.

Xander Moves Back In

Sarah is stunned to find Xander at the Kiriakis mansion, and to learn he’s moving back in after his apartment was flooded when the sprinklers went off. Xander feels this is best for their daughter, but Sarah disagrees.

Xander asks whether Sarah is afraid they’ll fight or of something else. Sarah reminds him she’s involved with another man and is happy, so being around him isn’t a problem, as long as he remains non-homicidal.

At this point, Brady shows up and learns that Xander is moving in. Brady suggests that he and Sarah go to his place while Xander settles in, which Xander clearly doesn’t like hearing. Sarah goes up to pack a bag, and Xander wonders if Brady has a problem with him being back in this house.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Gabi tells Gwen that if Xander can’t give her what she needs, then find someone who will. Also, be honest with them and everyone she cares about, and learn from her mistakes. Gabi heads off, and Gwen decides to keep drinking away her feelings.

Brady tells Xander he doesn’t have an issue with him staying here, and it won’t change a thing. Xander says, “We’ll see about that!” Sarah returns, and she and Brady depart.

Philip tells Amy he never fell into the river; it is a long and embarrassing story. He gives her the short version of his faking his death, explaining he was dealing with a mental health crisis at the time. Amy wishes she knew the pain Sophia was in, and she has to believe her baby is still alive…

JJ tells his parents to please know he isn’t going to hurt himself again; he’s in a much better place now. Jack and Jen are proud of the long way he’s come. JJ says he didn’t do it alone, and he values his life and everyone in it.

Shawn tells Jada that maybe it’s time to think outside the box. He’ll contact some people he knows on the street about the gun, and he can ask his Uncle Steve. She tells him he’s still on medical leave, so they should get him home. She helps him up, and they depart.

Finally, Philip leaves the pub and runs into Gabi. She tells him she looks like a hero, and thanks him for his service. He tells her to save it; semper fi means “always loyal and faithful,” and it doesn’t apply to her.

On the next episode of Days of Our Lives , Jen proposes a truce with Cat, and Xander and Sarah acknowledge some hard truths.
