Dr. Rolf Insists He Knows How to Save Lexie, and Kristen Makes a Surprise Call to [Spoiler]
Aaron and Ari are out kayaking, so Tate and Holly get back to it on the couch. Holly feel like the other shoe is about to drop at any moment (that’s foreshadowing if we ever heard it) but Tate insists she deserves happiness and makes a little meal. Holly takes one look and runs into the bathroom!
Tate’s all worried, but Holly figures the medication is probably making her nauseous. A short nap later and she’s well enough to get back to making out — until some guy shows up at the door with a summons. (Did he seriously follow them to the island?) Holly, of course, freaks out when she finds out Amy’s suing her.
Can Rolf Save Lexie?
Dr. Rolf presents his plan to EJ: More of the (newly-refined) drug for Lexie! Hey, can’t make things worse, right? (Don’t answer that.) Lexie, meanwhile, skipped out on an appointment with Kayla to rush over to Rolf’s lab, nearly collapsing as she walks in.
Rolf’s not worried since he has a plan: “We’re going to top you off with a little more juice!” (Lord, this is just gonna get worse and worse.) Lexie double checks with Rolf that this is the best option, and his response isn’t exactly uplifting: “It is your only option.”
Will Abe Ever Choose?
Abe finds Paulina in the square and hands her a bouquet for their anniversary. (What? You can’t keep pretending everything’s fine with whomever is in front of you!) Paulina politely declines, but admits she was going through their wedding album, while Abe thinks back to the big day.
Paulina tries to run off, but Abe stops her and apologizes for not keeping in better touch. “I should have reached out, because I want you to know, I love you.” (Abe!) Paulina tells him to knock it off. “What am I supposed to do with that??” She knows what his choice has to be, and walks away.
Can Theo and Lani Figure Out Kristen’s Plot?
Theo and Lani drop by Chanel’s to watch Trey during her surgery. She sent Johnny to work because he was making her nervous, and once she’s gone, too, Lani breaks out a stuffed narwhal that they got for Trey when she and Chanel went to the aquarium.
She then mentions Kristen asking her to pick up something for Rachel when she learned about the aquarium trip and you two are right there! So close to connecting the Sophia dots! Theo’s baffled by Lani’s friendship with Kristen and mentions how much contempt his aunt has for his uncle. (So. Close.)
What Is Kristen Up To?
Kristen slinks over to Johnny to comment on how good he looks after his brush with death. She innocently wonders what was going through Sophia’s mind, but Johnny understands enough to insist he doesn’t want to hang on to anger.
And when Kristen comments on the flowers Johnny has, he tells his aunt about Chanel’s surgery. “What?” She seems genuinely shocked and sorry (despite trying to kill him), but still has to make a few comments about EJ using this to worm his way back into Johnny’s life.
Next, she lets herself into the DiMera mansion to bug EJ and shows up just in time to see Lexie come out of the tunnels. Lexie plays dumb about seeing Rolf, insists she’s feeling great and runs off!
Is Chanel OK?
Johnny and Chanel get to the hospital, but she’s in surgery by the time Paulina shows up, shaken from her Abe run-in. She’s touched that Johnny remembers it was her anniversary (hard to forget family getting married on a holiday), then they touch on EJ not sharing the miracle drug.
Despite EJ’s (valid) reasoning, they both think something doesn’t sit right. But Chanel is against it, so it’s a no go. Speaking of whom, the port placement goes well and Johnny takes Chanel home, leaving Paulina to thank Kayla for taking care of her.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Lexie gets home, makes up an excuse about visiting EJ and Kristen (kinda true) and asks Abe to go to the Juneteenth event with her! She’s understandably excited since when she died, Juneteenth wasn’t a holiday! But Abe puts his foot down. He won’t go. Paulina’s making a speech, which Lexie shrugs off. “We’re all grownups, Abe!”
Kristen chastises EJ for not telling her about Chanel’s cancer, but it’s mainly a ploy to accuse him of using it to get into Johnny’s good graces. He takes the chance to twist the knife on Rachel in Bayview and they part ways with a smile! A sarcastic smile, but a smile.
Downstairs, Rolf tells EJ that Lexie’s condition improved almost instantly when she got the drug. “Oh, thank God for that,” but EJ doesn’t look relieved or certain. Kristen calls Sydney out of the blue, surprising her. (And us! But what is Kristen going to do to her??)
