Kat Refuses to Get Tested to Save Eva — and Kial Rushes to Comfort Nicole
When Shanice comes to check on Eva in her hospital room, she sends Ted to talk to an awaiting Martin. She then offers Leslie words of comfort and gives her scrubs to change into. Based on Shanice’s kindness and Martin needing Ted, Leslie deduces that things are bad. Shanice urges her not to lose hope. After she leaves, Leslie tearfully pours her heart out to her comatose daughter.
Kat’s Refusal
Finding Kat crying in the hospital stairwell, Izaiah gently pleads with her to get tested. She refuses. “What the hell is wrong with you?!” he shouts. Despite listing off the bad blood between her and Eva, Kat assures him this isn’t about revenge. She just hopes there’s another option before offering up her body parts on a silver platter. Izaiah wonders how she’ll live with herself if Eva dies.
Ted meets Martin and Smitty in the lobby to learn neither is a match for Eva. Martin vents about Kat refusing to get tested, but Ted understands his daughter’s need to wrap her mind around it first. Martin points out Eva doesn’t have that kind of time. An angry Izaiah joins them. Ted sends Martin home and instructs Izaiah to pull himself together before seeing Eva.
Ted goes to the stairwell and holds Kat. She feels pressure from everyone, including him. No one sees her, just a body to be used for spare parts. Ted assures her that couldn’t be further from the truth. She is his heart that he carries outside his body. His miracle, after he and Nicole thought they couldn’t have another child. Kat asks if he’ll forgive her if she doesn’t get tested. He tries to be diplomatic but ends up pleading with her, causing her even more distress. “I don’t want to be a match!” she blurts. He implores her to do it for him, not for Eva. She runs away in tears.
Kial Supports Nicole
Kial rushes to comfort Nicole at home when she grows emotional during their video call. As she recounts the catastrophic tornado, she realizes that in the past, she would have been debriefing the night with Ted, but now he has Shanice. “And you got me,” Kial says. “Yes. I do,” she says and leads him to her bedroom.
Kial points out he has until his appointment tomorrow night to be with her. Nicole is too tired for anything, so he offers to just hold her. As he spoons her in bed, Kial assures Nicole he’s not going anywhere. “Thank you so so much,” she says, squeezing his hand.
Ashley Confides in Jan
Ashley comes home to Jan waiting for her. She needs to recharge before heading back to the hospital. As Ashley details the trauma of helping people she actually knows, she ignores Grayson’s phone call. Jan encourages her to at least let him know she’s okay. Ashley reluctantly sends him a message and then cries over Derek. Jan knows he’d be proud of her for what she did tonight and would tell her she deserves to rest.
