Joey Recognizes The Impaler — But Who Is It?
After hanging up with Young & Restless’ Victor Newman, Vernon delightedly informs Anita that Victor will be making the keynote speech at Martin’s fundraiser. They reminisce about him taking a chance on Vernon during his first campaign.
At home, Martin goes over his fundraiser’s seating chart with his assistant, Shonda. There’s talk of Y&R’s Kyle Abbott and Devon Winters attending, and a warning from Smitty not to seat Victor with Jack Abbott. However, Smitty doesn’t have time to help out more since his story on the red market ring turned into a five-part series. But don’t worry, he’ll be available for photo ops at the fundraiser.
When Martin meets with the Grands, he’s thrilled to learn that Victor will be giving the keynote speech. Plus, Victor’s network of donors could give him the largest campaign war chest in the nation. But first, he has to win the primary. They also have to worry about the opposition uncovering what happened on that country road three years ago. And if Joey is connected to the red market ring, he could need a congressman to bail him out of trouble someday.
Survivor’s Guilt
Grayson drops by Ashley’s place to try to repair the damage he’s caused. A furious Ashley allows him five minutes. It goes about as well as you’d expect, however, and he leaves when Naomi stops by with takeout from Uptown. Naomi suggests that maybe the reason Ashley won’t take Grayson back is because she’d be giving him the second chance she never gave Derek. If that’s the case, she urges her friend not to punish herself.
Finding Grayson at Orphey Gene’s, Naomi urges him to be patient with Ashley. She and Jacob are both grappling with survivor’s guilt, which colors every decision they make.
Who is The Impaler?
Jacob meets with Smitty to suggest they uncover The Impaler’s identity. Namely, by smoking him out via rage bait in one of Smitty’s articles. Balking at printing false statements, Smitty instead suggests they ask for the public’s help. Based on their responses, they can map each city where the ring has been spotted and zero in from there.
At the casino, Vanessa overhears Joey and Randy discussing their impending meeting with The Impaler. She can’t believe Joey didn’t fill her in on it, but wants to prove her worth by attending the meeting. Fearing for her safety, Joey orders her back to the condo until this is over.
Vanessa reluctantly allows Randy to take her home, but convinces him to go back and protect Joey. When he returns, there’s a knock at the card room door. Upon Randy opening it, Joey stares slack-jawed. “You.”
