Things Get Very Nasty Between Anastasia and Nicole — Plus, Joey Tries Bonding With Vanessa’s Son
Nicole does her best to calm Samantha’s concerns about the many ways she might mess up at the cotillion. Of course, Francesca and Anastasia wander into the club just then. Samantha rolls her eyes, Nicole sighs and Anastasia raises one eyebrow while heading their way, clearly ready to do battle. Sure enough, Anastasia goes from faux polite to genuinely nasty, prompting Nicole to give as good as — make that better — she got!
Anastasia is beyond rude, suggesting Samantha — not being a biological Dupree — is less than, and pointing out her mother is a recovering drug addict-turned-waitress. “June and Samantha have more class in their pinkies than you have in your entire dried-up hate-filled body!” Across the room, Francesca apologizes to Samantha for what her “glamma” has said. But two seconds later, the teen admits she agrees with everything Anastasia said, but learned long ago it was impolite to say those things… out loud, anyway. By episode’s end, Samantha has had as much as she can handle. Declaring she can’t do this, she leaves the country club!
Anita Makes a Big Decision
Having moved her appointment to an earlier time, Anita is anxious to meet with Dr. Bauer to find out what her next steps are. What unfolds is an honest conversation about everything from how long it will take her hair to return — and that it might be a different color/texture upon doing so — to whether a lumpectomy or double mastectomy is the best path forward. After weighing her options, Anita decides she is going to have the lumpectomy, a less-invasive procedure. Vernon suggests she put thoughts of the surgery — which won’t take place for a while — out of her mind and focus on the cotillion, Chelsea’s wedding and, in essence, the life they’ve made together. Later, Anita crosses with Mona, who wants to start a cancer-support team through her church.
Vanessa Pushes Joey’s Buttons
Vanessa can’t help but think of Doug as she talks to Joey about the upcoming cotillion. But he explodes upon finding out she’s been trying to find his sister, Heather. Things get nasty, with him suggesting she wants “to try and fix my life so you feel less guilty about your own.” Furious, she storms out.
Heading to Uptown, Vanessa enjoys catching up with Donnell and getting an update on Deanna, whom he says is doing better. Joey interrupts to present Donnell with cufflinks given to him by his uncle. Donnell rejects them, and Joey apologizes for overstepping. Once he’s gone, Vanessa says she needs the people she cares about to co-exist, even if it’s just for her benefit. Donnell swings by Joey’s office to apologize, prompting the casino owner to say that he’s not trying to replace his dad and suggesting they try being friends.
Mona Reconnects With Randy
Randy and Mona cross paths at Orphey Gene’s. She agrees to join him for breakfast, but pulls back when he gets flirty, reminding him she is “a woman of substance.” She asks about Lynette, and he says she’s gone… as in permanently out of the picture. Randy asks why she’s bothering to spend time with him, and she admits to asking herself the same thing! She wants him to go back to church, saying that grace isn’t about “what you’ve done or how far you’ve fallen. It’s about [God] meeting you right where you are.” She suggests that while he has big, strong muscles, he should let the Lord do the lifting.
Next on Beyond the Gates, Ted realizes that he’s going to need a little bit of help in getting his love life back on track. But who’s he gonna call? (And no, the answer is not Ghostbusters!)
