Naomi Badgers Jacob Into Giving Up Undercover Secrets — and Anita Undergoes Her Last Chemo Treatment
In the Country Club lobby, Ted confronts Leslie about pressing Shanice’s buttons. She waves off his concerns and suggests they take Eva out to dinner on her birthday. He agrees to meet tonight since he can’t on her actual birthday due to the cotillion. He then meets Andre and Izaiah in the locker room for basketball.
As for Leslie, she meets Derek at the bar to reprimand him for not letting Grayson volunteer at the clinic. She got a call from Lia, who thinks his judgment is clouded. Despite his assurance that it isn’t about Grayson dating Ashley, Leslie orders him to bring Grayson on.
Jacob Cracks
Derek finds Ashley at the hospital to promise he’ll be cool when it comes to her and Grayson. She tears up, admitting they broke up. Derek was right, Grayson isn’t the man she thought he was. She still has feelings for him, though, so she doesn’t confide in her ex any further.
After badgering Jacob at the motel for information, Naomi finds Ashley to warn that Lia is the one putting her life in danger.
Family Bonding
At home, Tyrell broods about Jessica going to UCLA, being grounded and his fathers treating him like a little kid. Martin and Smitty just want to ensure he has the best life possible, but acknowledge they are feeling their way through parenthood.
Meanwhile, Samantha stresses to June at Orphey Gene’s about the cotillion. She then stops by Eva’s table to thank her for offering to do her hair for the event and to ask her to do June’s as well. When Samantha returns home with takeout, the family goes over cotillion details until Smitty gets a text from an unknown number that they’re free to meet.
Birthday Planning
Leslie joins Eva at Orphey Gene’s and tells her they are celebrating her birthday with Ted tonight. Eva reminds her mother that today isn’t her birthday. Leslie assures her she’d never forget the 26 hours of labor during which she pushed out her big head with no pain meds. When Eva reveals she’s helping Samantha get ready for cotillion on her actual birthday, Leslie bemoans Eva constantly choosing the other side of her family tree over her. With her side a bunch of empty branches, Leslie wants to make up for all the time the three of them lost together as a family. Eva agrees to the birthday dinner, as does Izaiah, when Ted invites him. However, he offers to cook instead of them going out.
Anita Rings the Bell
As they wait in the hospital lobby during Anita’s last chemo appointment, Nicole tells Dani she thought of Ted while having sex with Carlton. Dani assures her therapist sister that it’s just part of letting go and urges her not to overthink it. They join Anita as she rings the victory bell to signify the end of chemo.
Andre meets the Duprees at home, where they toast to the end of Antia’s cancer battle. She reminds them it’s just the end of chemo. There are still a few more hurdles before she’s in the clear. After Andre, Dani and Nicole offer words of love and encouragement, Anita assures them there is no stopping her now.
Next on Beyond the Gates, Joey gets in Smitty’s face, and Bill deals with someone from his past.
