Wait, What’s Wrong With Drew? Is General Hospital Really Going There *Again*?!

It looks like Willow finally got what she wanted on General Hospital — and that’s Drew out of her way! Honestly, we aren’t sure what’s more extreme: shooting him in the back or turning him into a vegetable for the rest of his life, but since the former failed, she went with the latter.
After stabbing her hubby with a syringe of some sort, it looks like Drew suffered a massive stroke and it could severely curtail his life. In fact, it could even result in locked-in syndrome. That would mean Drew would be conscious and aware, but he wouldn’t be able to communicate beyond eye movements. It’s a very real and horrifying neurological condition, and if it sounds familiar, that’s because this isn’t the first time General Hospital has gone there.
Back in 2020, Ryan was stabbed in the back, underwent emergency surgery, was left comatose, then nearly killed in his hospital bed by Ava Nikolas. After all of that, we learned that he had locked-in syndrome, leaving him a shell of his former, psychotic, terrifying self. Or so we thought.
It didn’t take too long for him to reveal to his daughter, Esme, that he was faking the whole thing. That eventually led to his death — but his faking is just about the only reason he ever came out of it.
In reality, few people ever recover from locked-in syndrome. The best treatment for it is to try to alleviate the underlying cause, but recovering significant motor function is extremely rare.
If Drew ends up having it for real, his future is not looking good. Though since this is a soap, we can always expect a miracle or two. Still, time will tell if Drew’s in that bad of shape. And if he’s not, he may want to fake it for a bit until he can get the goods on Willow!
One thing we do know is that Willow had better hope he doesn’t recover. Because while she may not be able to be tried again for the shooting, she just committed a whole new crime that she can go to jail for!
