Zende Is Floored by Ridge’s Announcement — Plus, Brooke Learns the Identity of Katie’s Mystery Designer
As the episode begins, Brooke is at Logan still yelling at Katie about the timing of her fashion show while Hope plays hide and hide (no seek). “Who is your mystery designer?” Brooke demands to know. “I need answers!” Well, hon, you’re in no way entitled to them. Over at Forrester, Ridge, Eric, R.J., Zende, Carter and Steffy discuss how Brooke left for Logan like a bat out of hell. That is literally the hot topic: how Brooke left in a huff.
‘The Secret’s Out!’
After the opening credits, Brooke threatens to search the halls of Bill’s building to learn the identity of Katie’s secret designer — even as Hope is sneaking out the door behind her like a cartoon character. Her destination? The workroom, where she orders Deke to go to Katie’s office immediately and reveal that it’s him.
“You hired Deke, Deacon’s son?!?” Brooke exclaims, taking pains to remind us who the designer’s father in (as if we forgot). Yep, Katie replies. “The secret’s out!” Well, part of it, anyway.
Zende’s Set Up For a Devastating Disappointment
At Forrester, Steffy orders everyone back to work and reminds them that, right after couture, they’ll be relaunching Hope For the Future. Once again, Zende says that working on Hope’s line is his real calling. “We never questioned your talent,” Steffy assures him. Uh, if you say so, Steffy.
Shortly, Ridge approaches Zende and tells him that Thomas has been making fine contributions from abroad, but they need someone in L.A. to be lead designer of HFTF: As a matter of fact, they need Zende. He can’t believe it! He’s so excited to be working with Hope again. Oh, if the poor guy only knew…
Brooke Extends Her Snarkiest Best Wishes
For a second, Brooke is almost speechless over the Deke reveal. When she finds her voice, she cracks about Logan going with an unknown, then goes back to itemizing the things Katie has “stolen” — the latest being Forrester’s customers.
Anyway, “I hope you have a lovely show,” Brooke tells Deke with all the sincerity you’d expect. She goes on to say that she hopes Katie has “realistic expectations” for what she can achieve. Oh, it is gonna be sweet when reality bites Brooke!
The Forresters Laugh Off the Threat That Logan Poses
When Brooke returns to Forrester, she reassures her cohorts that they needn’t worry about Logan. Why’s that? Logan hired Deke, she reveals. Somehow the lot of them seem to have forgotten how excited they were about his designs in the five minutes that he worked at Forrester.
Katie has high hopes for her second showing, Brooke scoffs. “But hope can only take you so far.” Somebody in the writers’ room is having pun with all this! Back at Logan, Hope and Katie reassure Deke that the collection is ready. He just wishes they had an extra couple of days to perfect things. (Foreshadowing?)
In the episode’s final moments, Brooke complains to Ridge that she hates being at odds with Katie. Stopping attacking Katie might help, Brooke. Just sayin’. Instead of do that, she and Ridge go on badmouthing Katie, Deke, Logan, all of it, until talk turns to how the dressmaker has come through for Hope by getting HFTF reinstated. Could they lay it on any thicker?
At Logan, Hope takes a call from her mom with Katie on speaker. “Is there something you forgot to tell me,” Brooke asks, “about your brother?” She can’t believe that Deke didn’t inform Hope of his big break. By and by, Brooke gets to reminding Hope that she’ll be back at work at Forrester soon, and she can’t wait to see her at the couture show. “Never forget how much I really love you,” Brooke concludes.
Sensing Hope’s (never-ending) upset, Katie embraces her niece and reassures her that it’ll all be over the next day. “You’re with me now,” Katie says. “You’re a Spencer.”
