Steve and Shawn Form a Plan to Save Bo — and Xander Gets Bad News About Philip

Stephanie’s cleaning out her home office to give Jada her own room — she’ll be staying for awhile since she and Rafe are over. Though last night, she tells Alex, Jada stayed at Shawn’s. Alex heads out, then comes back with a key to his apartment — for when they want more privacy. Stephanie, in turn, rushes over to give him a key to her apartment, too.
They start going at it, but Stephanie stops Alex to get to work. Plus, she has to tie up fundraiser loose ends and take her mom out to lunch. At least, that’s the hope, she hasn’t heard from Kayla yet.
Kayla’s At a Loss to Help Bo
Steve and Kayla go over the miracle drug that could save Bo and Dr. Russell’s refusal to let Kayla use it. She’s tried everything she can think of to find other alternatives for Bo, but there’s nothing else out there.
As a doctor, she understands Dr. Russell, but as a sister, she can’t accept it. She just gave Shawn false hope for a miracle drug and can’t bear the thought of pulling the rug out from under him.
Kayla gives Shawn a call to tell him the news, just before Stephanie shows up, happily greeting both her parents before she realizes something’s wrong. They tell her about Bo. There’s so much bad news, but at least Kimberly’s treatment is going well. But no word on finding John, yet.
Jada and Philip Encourage Shawn
Shawn and Jada have breakfast in the pub — though he thinks Jada’s staying with him to be sure he doesn’t fall off the wagon again with the news of his dad. Philip drops in and Shawn breaks the news about Bo. It’s not good, but there’s a miracle drug being developed that could help him. Kayla told them about it.
Just then, Aunt Kayla calls to tell Shawn the drug is a dead end. He fills Philip and Jada in, and Philip assures his nephew that he’s there for him no matter what, then heads out.
Shawn can’t help but feel like there’s no hope left, but he wishes there was a way around Dr. Russell. Jada has to head out to check in with the mayor and Shawn says he’ll go for a run. He thanks her again for everything.
Once Jada’s gone, too, Shawn calls Steve. He thinks he knows a way to save his dad and needs to see his uncle right away.
Steve heads out to see Shawn and Stephanie and Kayla catch up about Steph’s secret dilemma. It was taken out of her hands, but “someone” didn’t escape unscathed.
When Steve gets to the pub, Shawn lays out his plan — and it involves them stealing the drug from Russell. Steve sighs and sits back. This way Dr. Russell can’t be blamed, the drug can keep going forward and Bo can be saved. It’s a solid plan, Steve agrees, then tells Shawn he’ll do it on his own.
Gabi Flips Out at Leo, Javi and Philip
Gabi lays into Leo for going through her purse, thinking he’s stealing from her, but he’s saved by the bell when Javi gets home. Or not. “This sticky-fingered freak has to move out immediately!” Gabi tells her cousin. They guys try talking her down, she tells Javi that Leo’s a thief and must have stolen Rafe’s memory card.
She pulls rank and tells Javi Leo needs to get out of her house. Fine, he replies, “If Leo goes, I go, too.” Gabi doesn’t want to lose her cousin, but Javi points out that she’s got no proof Leo stole anything.
She storms out and drags Javi with her to go to the office, but before he goes, he promises Leo they’ll work it out. Once alone, Leo starts making a list of EJ shooting suspects. Gabi, Rafe, Ava, Kristen, Johnny — but his money’s still on Gabi.
Gabi and Javi arrive at her office to find Philip working at her desk. His Titan office is being renovated, he claims to an irate Gabi. She orders him out of her chair and Javi tries calming her down as she lays into Philip — but instead, she turns on her cousin. “Who asked you?!”
Javi leaves in disgust and Philip suggests Gabi should be nicer to her family. She, in turn, points out how dysfunctional the Kiriakis family is. Philip has to step out when he gets a call, so Gabi dumps his laptop in the trash and takes her seat.
Alex and Xander Work Together
Alex gets over to the mansion where Xander is working — and plotting to remove Philip. He’s looking at avenues to get rid of his brother without jeopardizing DiMera. Alex promises Xander can count on him, but Xander’s still distrustful of him.
Alex apologizes again and says he’ll earn Xander’s trust back, promising never to keep any more secrets. They shake on it, then Xander heads upstairs to find a file.
Gabi calls Alex about the date she won at the auction. “Oh. OK, we’re gonna do that?” Yes, Gabi tells him, they are. And she expects something big and fancy like a hot air balloon ride or an island weekend getaway.
Alex pushes down his irritation and makes clear to Gabi that it isn’t a real date. Gabi knows, but she paid $15,000 for him, so figure something out. Philip wanders back into the office to overhear the last part, marveling that she paid that much for a platonic date.
“You never know,” Gabi replies. “Sparks fly when you least expect it.” Philip agrees, then Gabi tells him to get his laptop out of the trash. She calls for Javi to clean it off, but he’s gone.
Xander gets back downstairs to find an irritated Alex trying to figure out a date for Gabi. He’s stuck with this and the fundraiser didn’t even raise enough money to save the hospital. Xander would like to buy it himself, but they can’t liquify enough assets with the takeover.
Alex takes the moment to talk business and decide what divisions of DiMera to dump. Agreed, but Xander says one they should definitely keep is DiMera Pharmaceuticals.
Leo Promises to Behave. Mostly
Javi heads back home, needing to get away from his cousin, and asks Leo what he was really doing in Gabi’s purse. He’s working on a story, Leo admits, but it’s top secret. So Javi grabs the list of EJ shooting suspects, horrified that his cousins are at the top of the list.
Javi puts his foot down and tells Leo to drop it — he can’t go after his family. Leo can’t do that, but he promises not to take advantage of being in this home. That’s good enough for Javi, though he’s not sure what to do about Gabi. Maybe living and working together wasn’t a good idea.
So quit, Leo says.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Philip is about to clean off his laptop when he gets a call again, but when Gabi wants to know what it was about, he just says he caught a lucky break. And “Xander’s going to go ballistic.”
Xander gets a call from Mr. Shin, but it’s not good news. Xander has to keep working with Philip. Also, he tells Xander, the truth about the fraud can never come out.
Alex arrives back at Stephanie’s, looking for his wallet. Then he spots a novel Stephanie wrote in one of her boxes and starts going through it just as Jada gets in. Rather than put it back ,he takes the manuscript with him.
Kayla tells Stephanie she can’t make lunch; she’s too focused on helping Uncle Bo. They embrace and Stephanie heads out. Back at the pub, Shawn tells Steve he can’t do this on his own. He’s not backing down. Steve reluctantly agrees and they shake.
