Sophia’s Rushed to the Hospital as the Teens Graduate, and Rachel’s Secret Threatens to Spill Over

Holly rushes to the high school for graduation, only to run into Tate, who picks her graduation cap off the floor with a smile. Aaron and Sophia wander over to congratulate Holly on being salutatorian. Well, Sophia a bit reluctantly. They realize that this is likely the last time they’ll see each other in the school halls.
Holly talks to Tate a bit about what he’s going through, celebrating as he grieves his grandfather’s death. Then Sophia gasps behind them and announces she thinks she’s in labor.
They rush out and Aaron notes that Holly seems nervous. Maybe a little, since Tate and Sophia never found anyone to adopt the baby. What now?
Paulina Prepares for Graduation
Paulina’s in the square, going through her graduation speech with Abe, who reassures her that he’s perfectly fine with spending their anniversary at the graduation. He steps away to grab some tea, and Chanel walks by, on her way to work on Andrew and Paul’s wedding cake.
She likes doing wedding cakes, and she’s trying to get her mind off Johnny maybe warming up to EJ. She doesn’t want EJ around Johnny or her potential child. Abe returns, but Chanel just offers an awkward “Happy Anniversary,” then runs off.
Abe and Paulina get back to going over her speech. She reads through it a bit, talking about how it’s the beginning of the rest of their lives and tying it to Juneteenth.
Commencement happens offscreen, after which Aaron is flying high, while Holly’s still worried. He assures her everything will be fine with Sophia. Maybe, but that’s the least of her worries because Eric and Nicole were sitting on opposite ends of the auditorium. Holly thinks something happened between them.
EJ Gets a Couple Visitors
EJ walks into the living room, surprised to see Brady waiting. He’s there to pick up Rachel for Tate’s graduation — then she’s staying since Kristen is settling her mom back into Aremid. Brady jumps right into telling EJ he knows that he let her go to try covering for Johnny shooting him.
EJ’s not happy. “I should have known Kristen couldn’t keep her mouth shut.” But he appeals to Brady’s sense of fatherhood to keep quiet. EJ just wants to protect his son. Rachel walks in just in time to hear Brady talking about her being traumatized. She says she just threw up, so Brady takes her to the doctor.
Chanel then shows up to interrupt EJ on the phone, but she didn’t hear anything. She’s just there to yell at him about Johnny. It’s his fault Johnny doesn’t think he could be a good father. Her life’s been turned upside down thanks to EJ.
“Johnny and I are bound by blood,” he tells her mildly. Chanel threatens EJ to stay away from Johnny, since it’s the only language he speaks.
Sarah Checks Out Marlena
In the hospital, Marlena fills Sarah in on her dizzy spell. She admits she hasn’t been eating well and she’s exhausted. She’s been stressed for months, ever since John went missing. Sarah understands but suggests they run some tests.
Everything looks great offhand, but she offers to run some labs. “OK, so your diagnosis is grief,” Marlena sighs. Sarah gently asks if she has a therapist she feels comfortable talking to. Marlena knows people are out there, she’s just noncommittal about talking to them.
She, instead, offers to help Sarah talk about what she’s going through with Xander. She wants to feel productive and useful, which Sarah understands. Then Rachel and Brady get over and she runs up to her grandmother.
Rachel Bonds With Sarah
Brady tells them she threw up, and Sarah promises to take a look. Marlena offers to look after Rachel so Brady can get to graduation. But before he can leave, Tate, Sophia and Amy rush in and declare she’s having a baby.
In the exam room, Rachel says her tummy hurts all the time. It usually only feels better when she’s not thinking about it. So Sarah asks if something is bothering her, then assures her that anything she tells her stays between them because she’s a doctor. She pinky swears and convinces Rachel to open up.
“Sometimes… I hear things I shouldn’t. Or sees things I shouldn’t.” But then a nurse interrupts to tell Sarah that a young woman in labor just arrived. But it breaks the momentum and Rachel just tells Sarah she feels better with her for some reason and she’s not upset anymore.
Sophia Begins Labor, But…
A nurse wheels Sophia off, and a panicked Amy takes a call from her husband. Tate catches up with Brady and Marlena who explain what they’re doing there, then Sarah returns with Rachel — who’s confused about what Tate is doing there. He takes her to get a drink, and once they’re gone, Brady asks Sarah what’s going on with Rachel.
It seems to be more psychological than physical. Tate gets back with Rachel, who’s laughing and in good spirits, so Marlena suggests they do a girls’ night together and they head home.
Sophia gets into a room where Sarah examines her and tries to get her to relax, her blood pressures a bit elevated. She asks Sophia what’s worrying her the most. “Honestly, it’s the fact that Tate and I haven’t found the adoptive parents yet.” She’s worried Tate will fall in love with the baby and not want to give it up. But she is very ready — she wants what’s best for her and Tate. Sarah tells her standing firm takes a lot of courage, then Sophia breathes through another contraction.
Abe and Paulina, meanwhile, celebrate after graduation in The Bistro and he tells his wife her speech gave him goosebumps. They toast to their anniversary. Chanel gets to the Bistro and Abe and Paulina insist on her joining them for their anniversary dinner. She reluctantly pulls up a chair and Paulina foists a cocktail on her. They toast to the future, while Chanel looks absolutely miserable.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Amy, Brady and Tate are all wrecks waiting out in the reception area, none of them happy about Sophia not wanting anyone in with her. Brady tries calming Tate down, then Sarah and the nurse wheel Sophia out. Turns out, she’s not in labor. She apologizes for making them miss graduation for nothing and offers to treat them all to dinner. They politely decline and Amy takes her home for a “small graduation surprise,” just for her. Sophia’s glad it was a false alarm, so they still have time to line up adoptive parents.
Brady thanks Sarah for going above and beyond, and offers to be a sounding board to vent about Xander.
Aaron reassures Holly that Eric and Nicole fighting doesn’t mean they’re breaking up. She’s about to visit Paris, maybe she can “Parent Trap” them. He takes her off to celebrate with their families.
Alone, EJ looks up at Stefano, then pulls out his phone to call Rita. He needs the memory stick he gave her.
Marlena and Rachel work on a puzzle in the living room, but Rachel’s not having much luck. Marlena suggests Rachel might be tired when she yawns, then tells her maybe she could lay down on the sofa and look at the pieces as Marlena works. “I guess so,” she says, lays down and falls almost instantly asleep. Marlena’s reading while Rachel sleeps, only to jump up in surprise when Rachel yells in her sleep: “No! Don’t shoot him!”
