Laurence claims that he went to see Jack, who wasn’t interested in an update on Diane. She’s skeptical. He explains a woman arrived and let herself in with a key. Diane frowns, “Patty?” Markham says they seemed enamored and it was obvious she was living there. Diane asks why Jack called him just now.

Laurence weaves a tale, claiming that Jack didn’t believe Diane would ever forgive him, so he moved on. Diane shakes her head, “No, no, no.” He would have told her himself. She breaks down, but in her mind, she tells herself Jack would never move on with Patty, who must be in on this with Markham.

At Crimson Lights, Kyle calls Laurence and leaves a voicemail telling him he followed him to his house and saw his mother through the window. “How about you call me back and explain what’s really going on. If not, my next call is to the police.” Jack marvels, “That should smoke him out.” Kyle muses that if Markham calls back worried, Diane is likely in the house.

Back at Markham’s, Diane wails and gnashes her teeth for his benefit as she melts down over Jack moving on with Patty. Using the opportunity, she asks again for something to help her sleep. He agrees and leaves the room. Once alone, Diane glares.

He tells her the surgeon is coming from New York in a few hours.
