‘Gross’: The Unbelievable Young & Restless Plot Twist That’s Left Fans Outraged

Every so often a soap opera story inspires a great deal of controversy. The Matt Clark twist on Young & Restless definitely falls into that category, and recently generated an outpouring of outrage on social media, not only for the obvious reasons, but for the nonsensical plot points that go along with it.
With Victor offering the family’s foremost enemy, Matt Clark, a second chance simply because he’s expressing remorse, it sets up the redemption of the man who raped Sharon and tried to kill other members of the family. Fans went off with no holds barred:
Many fans are justifiably upset about the pretzel-twisting that’s happening to facilitate the redemption of Matt Clark, noting that it goes against everything we’ve ever known about the history, the Newmans, Victor and Nick. Victor tolerating someone who framed his son for murder, and Nick going along with it given that Matt raped Sharon is crazy business!
Getting into other plot points that don’t make sense, are we to believe that Victor’s willing to forgive Matt Clark, his arch-enemy, but not Jack? It boggles the mind.
Victor wants to use Matt Clark to go after Cane, but why?! He already decimated and destroyed his company, Arabesque. What else does he think he’s going to do to him?
It’s ludicrous to think that even if Victor had a legitimate reason to go after Cane again that Ashby would have no clue who Matt Clark is given his notorious history in Genoa City. Are the writers about to try and make us believe that Lily, Phyllis, or anyone close to Cane wouldn’t fill him in on the guy’s identity and history when he befriends him?
But not all Young & Restless fans are against the redemption story. There’s no question that Roger Howarth is a fanstastic actor, who easily made us feel something for an amnesiac Matt Clark. As a result, some are willing to make the stretch, as gargatuan and distasteful as it may be, to keep him around.
