Nikki Receives a Devastating Diagnosis — and Patty Drops Another Bomb on Jack

At Laurence’s house, Diane tries to hack into the phone she snagged from the drawer. Hiding it as he arrives, she asks if she can tag along on his next jog to keep up her fitness. He’s afraid she’d literally run away from her problems, but offers to let her use the gym. As she eats, he he says he’ll agree to treat her there. They can start when he returns.
Before Laurence can go, Diane asks his star sign. Thrown off, he mentions his birthday and she says he may have been fated to save her. Once he exits, she continues trying passwords on the phone, but finally decides her best option is to play him.
Patty’s Muffins
At the Abbott manse, Jack didn’t sleep all night because he was worried Patty would join him in bed. He’s stunned to find quiche and muffins in the dining room. Patty announces that they were all her work. She even had his work schedule rearranged so they could spend the morning together.
Jack announces that allowing her to move in was a mistake. Patty reminds him they made a deal. He immediately caves and is suprised when she says she’s arranged for Diane’s doctor to speak to him; he will come to them. Patty assures him Diane is getting the best treatment and then urges him to taste her muffin.
Patty suggests skinny-dipping later and wonders what they should do with their time before the doctor arrives. Jack sends her to the kitchen for some lemon curd and texts Kyle, urging him to come and track the doctor when he leaves.
When Laurence arrives, Jack realizes he was Patty’s therapist. The doctor explains he had to step in for Diane’s doctor and assures Jack that she’s receiving the best care… but he can’t see her because he’s the one who drove her to this point.
Before Laurence can leave, Jack asks about Patty’s miraculous cure. Laurence assures him his former patient is as sane as he is. Hmm. Once Laurence departs, Patty declares his statement is proof that she’s healed and ready for love.
Nikki’s Devastating Diagnosis
Nikki and Victoria meet with Dr. Nolling in his office. He’s reviewed her MRI and it shows a mass has grown around her optic nerve. If it is not successfully treated, she will go blind. As she asks if it can simply be removed, he explains that surgery is risky and could also cause blindness… he’ll do all he can. The doctor leaves the women alone. Nikki is in disbelief.
Grandpa Time
Claire drops by the ranch for some grandpa time. Victor tells her she’ll be busy now that they have the company back. He wants her to rebuild the publishing division from scratch. They agree to brunch at the Club, and she giggles to herself that it won’t just be them.
Nikki Swears Victoria to Silence
When Nikki and Victoria arrive at her suite, her daughter offers to get a second opinion from Nate. Claire calls and tries to tempt her grandmother to brunch, but she says she’s not up to it. Looking out the window, Nikki tells Victoria it’s impossible to imagine a life without vision. Victoria urges her mom to seek a second opinion. Nikki agrees, but the facts won’t change. Victoria wants permission to inform Victor. Nikki refuses to allow it.
Get Over Yourselves
Victor meets Claire at the Club and wonders if this was her way of trapping him into spending time with Nikki. Claire has heard all about their great romance and thinks they are being stubborn; they need to get over themselves. Her grandfather insists that things just aren’t that easy, pointing out that Nikki refused to come. Claire, resigned, tells him there’s something he needs to know.
The Final Scenes
In Nikki’s suite, a tearful Victoria pleads with her mother to let Victor know about her diagnosis. Nikki refuses to let Victor and his ego back into her life. She won’t let him see her weak and makes her daughter promise not to tell him the truth.
At the Club, Claire tells Victor that Victoria took Nikki to the doctor this morning for tests.
At Laurence’s house, he returns from jogging and Diane tells him she’s ready to heal her trauma with his help. Touching his arm, she thanks him.
Back at the Abbott mansion, Patty tells Jack he needs to respect Diane cutting him out and cryptically reminds him that their arrangement is all about Diane’s safety. Still, she’s confident he will realize that Diane’s love was all a lie. He insists it’s real. Patty makes it clear she’s determined to show him what real love is… and then she can become his wife.
