Bold & Beautiful Crusher: Beloved Member of the Family Let Go

Here at Soaps.com, we write about soaps’ comings and goings day in and day out. But I’m not gonna lie: This one hurts a helluva lot more than most. According to our sister site Deadline, The Bold and the Beautiful has laid off Eva Basler after more than 20 years of absolute dedication to the show.
Now, you might not know Eva’s name, but believe you me, you know her work. As the veep of Communications and Talent Relations for Bell-Phillip TV Productions, she arranged nearly all of our (and everybody else’s) cast interviews, zhushed up all of the spoilers that kept us eager to tune in tomorrow and acted as the best damn cheerleader any daytime drama could ever hope for.
And, not to put too fine a point on it, Eva kicked ass, even as she dealt with health issues that would have put most of us down for the count. She isn’t just a publicist, she’s an institution. And to hear her call you darling is as close as you’ll ever come to having the OG Sally Spectra do so. She even wrote the book on Bold & Beautiful — its 2007 Celebration of 20 Years on Television.
In 2008, my colleague Candi Young had occasion to interview Eva, who said that the most rewarding part of her job was being of service to the Bell family and the fans — and boy, did it show, in everything that she did. The Bells and we were lucky to have her.
I do not know why Eva was let go, but we’ve all been there, haven’t we? In situations where the powers that be make decisions regarding our futures about which we aren’t consulted and have no correlation whatsoever with the quality of our work, the intensity of our commitment or our ability to roll with the punches, no matter how hard the blows may be. (If you haven’t, consider yourself lucky.)
To wrap up this article that I’d have shaved my eyebrows or sworn off wine not to have to write, I can only say that I hope Eva will find a new role in daytime so that we might work together again. All of us at Soaps.com are keeping our fingers crossed that this isn’t the end of a storyline but merely a disheartening plot twist.
How could we not? As Tina Turner would put it, Eva is simply the best.
