Stephanie Gives Holden and Malcolm Shocking News — and Cane Spits On Phyllis’ Offer

At the Club, Malcolm tells Lily that he’s sorry, not sorry, for getting in Cane’s face, adding that Neil hated him too. Lily leaves that alone and assures him she won’t tell Devon or Nate what he told her. “Does anyone else know about your diagnosis?” Cut to Crimson Lights with Stephanie and Holden, who recalls that his father died young of a heart attack, and wonders what his mother has to tell him.
Good Times
At the Club bar, Phyllis natters away to Cane, who isn’t about to divulge who he’s seeking revenge on, but taunts, “Maybe it’s you.” They bicker at length as Ashby mocks her for thinking she’s a big deal in town. “Nobody respects you… your kids are disgusted with you.” She’s the most hated person in town!
Cane tries to walk away but Phyllis persists. He insults her some more and needles that she has everything except his attention. Amused by his outburst, she follows him to the seating area and offers funding for his new AI or hire him. She reminds him what a good time they had together. “How can you say no to me?”
In the foyer, Malcolm tells Lily he won’t tell anyone about his diagnosis for now. She hopes she can be the donor. Malcolm assures her if she’s not a match, there are things he can do to buy time. They talk about the meaning of family until he drops the news that his medical team is in New York.
At Crimson Lights, Stephanie explains to Holden that when she met Jerry Novak, she was already pregnant. Jerry was not his biological father. Holden tries to wrap his mind around this and guesses his real father has already died too. He asks, “Is my biological father still alive?”
At that very moment, Malcolm’s telling Lily that Stephanie is his doctor. He explains how Dru and Olivia set them up back in the day. Lily’s eager to find out if she’s a match. Mal warns her not to feel bad if she’s not… things will work out how they’re meant to. Perhaps like this.
Back at Crimson Lights, Stephanie tells Holden that his father is alive, but he doesn’t know about him. She tells her son that this man is a good man and may need his help. Holden realizes she’s telling him this for this man’s sake, not his. Just then, Malcolm walks in. Stephanie leaves Holden on the patio to go in and greet him.
Back at the Club, Ashby resists Phyllis’ offer, but she knows he needs this. As she makes her pitch, he watches Lily walk past frowning and making a phone call. Phyllis notices, which irks Cane even more. He refuses her offer again and threatens to develop new AI just to target her.
At the coffee shop, Malcolm tells Stephanie that Lily is ready to get tested. She has someone she wants him to meet and asks him to sit. Stephanie breaks the news that Lily isn’t a donor candidate: she’s had cancer. Malcolm is floored. Stephanie explains that she’s not his only option. “There’s something that I need to tell you that will change everything.” Just then, Holden walks in.
Stephanie sits them both down. She tells Malcolm that Holden is a wonderful young man. Cutting to the chase, she declares, “He’s my son, Malcolm. And yours.”
Stephanie explains that when she left Genoa City, she was pregnant with his child. The residency in New York gave her time to think… then she met Dr. Jerry Novak. By then, Malcolm had started up with Olivia, so they decided not to tell him. Malcolm listens as she makes excuses for not contacting him sooner.
Holden asks why Malcolm needs his help. Winters hesitates, telling Stephanie this is a lot to ask. Holden asks, “Are you sick?” Malcolm and Stephanie explain that he needs a match for a transplant. Mal adds that his daughter is not an option. Holden reels anew… he has a sister too?
Back at the Club, Cane approaches Lily, who moans, “Not now.” He ignores her and sits down, asking, “Are you OK?” Lily’s surprised he cares. Ashby wants to help and asks if Malcolm’s OK. She admits she needs someone to talk to, but it’s not him. He abruptly leaves. Lily calls the doctor about getting tested as Phyllis eyeballs her across the room.
Back at Crimson Lights, Holden’s still reeling and questions Malcolm about other family members. He says his brother died. Stephanie urges them to stay focused. When Malcolm is well, they can then figure out the emotional side of this. Malcolm tells Stephanie he has to call his daughter… Lily Winters. Holden’s bowled over yet again.
The Final Scenes
Stephanie asks her son, “You know Lily?” Holden says yes, and asks Malcolm about the portrait of her father, Neil, at the Club. Malcolm, rather than get into Dru and the cold medicine, simply explains that Neil was his brother. Holden tells them that he and Lily are acquaintances with complications. Stephanie just wants to focus on the donor situation. Mal asks if his son would be willing to help him out.
At the Club, Lily asks her doctor, by phone, if she can come to the office to test as a stem cell donor. He tells her she’s not a candidate because of her cancer treatments. She disconnects and tears up. Cane watches her, and then walks out. Phyllis looks over at Lily.
Back at Crimson Lights, Holden is still upset about his mother’s deception. Stephanie just wants to make Malcolm well, for everyone’s sake, including Holden’s. She implores him to go see if he’s a match. He may be the only person who can save Malcolm’s life!
