It’s official! Tucker McCall is back in Genoa City in a new role – it will shock you
It’s been a hot minute since we heard the name Tucker McCall mentioned in Young & Restless circles, but a new storyline has Devon’s dad jumping to the forefront of our minds as business once again takes center stage in Genoa City. OK, fine, it never left, but you know what we mean…
When Tucker last returned, he was depicted as a big, bad business baron. Everyone was sure he was gunning for their company. What followed was a year or so of vague threats that turned out to be mostly in the minds of those who watched him sitting around in dining rooms and bars knocking back scotch. His illusory alliances never actually materialized, and, ultimately, all he ever really wanted was to win back his ex-wife and kid. Is any of this sounding familiar?
If it doesn’t sound familiar, it should. Why? Because McCall’s is the exact same story we’re seeing playing out with the newly-returned Cane Ashby. Much like Tucker crashing an Abbott ceremony in a helicopter, the hype was all for nothing. After weeks of mazes, train cars, not to mention the deaths, Ashby’s now decided to drop his plan to wreak havoc on Genoa City entirely, giving us instant déjà vu to Tucker’s perpetually fizzling schemes.
Exactly like the unlucky in love (and fatherhood) McCall, Cane deflated like a four-day-old balloon when his hopes of reconciling with his ex and his offspring went up in smoke. He’s making pitches, just like Tucker, but to no avail so far. He even threw his scotch glass at the wall like his predecessor! Their profiles couldn’t be more alike.
How do Young & Restless fans feel about a do-over of this storyline? In a word, they’re tired. Elated62 asked in SOAPS’ message board, “What was the point of the whole Dumas story then?!”
We can also report that they are not fans of watching another go-round of male angst. After Adam, Nick, Billy, and Tucker (we’ve surely missed a couple more), few are into riding Cane’s man pain train. Readers’ remarks about Ashby’s standalone episode suggested they’re just not feeling invested.
Aquarius4Life declared, “This storyline is so over done and it’s boring.” Teachone agreed, “Boring! I fell asleep before the end.” But it was ThornsandRoses who really cut to the chase by stating, “Counting grains of sand while watching paint dry would have been more entertaining.” Ouch. At least Tucker had an endless supply of one-liners and a racy little affair going with Audra to make him interesting.
Young & Restless seems to have a problem on its hands here, as viewers are seeing repetitive and unappealing patterns emerge in the story-telling. Perhaps they can switch it up by having Cane actually form some alliances and follow through on some of his threats. We might sit up and take notice if he was actually able to take over Newman Enterprises and create genuine chaos!
Do you see Cane as the new Tucker? Vote!
